Presenting your artworks

In many instances it can be difficult to know the best way to present your artworks, either for an exhibition or to display in your home. Our May meeting was led by Jenny who took us through a thinking process with some key decisions that will influence how our work could be presented.

Some key considerations presented and discussed were:

  • Focusing attention on your work
  • Extending the feel of what you have created
  • Preserving the work – enemies of textiles are light moisture and insects
  • Securely fastening all aspects of your piece  – safety and climate
  • Being mindful of the finish of the work – this doesn’t mean the finish has to be traditional but purposeful. Be aware of all aspects – front back all around in 3D

There was then some discussion/brainstorming about items brought along that people were not sure how to present.

At times also some hilarity ensued, with discussion of adding led lights and wearing as an adornment! Claire’s roses also fulfilled the change of ‘Twist’.

There was also talk of a Les Mis guillotine in relation to one piece. A very entertaining and enlightening session!

Special thanks to Carmel for sharing her process journal and explaining how she works through design ideas to the finished and framed art work.
